answering questions

  1. The maker is all about friendship and how life is short it is mainly a story with meaning and it shows that life is short. It raises some of the issues that may arise in life as the person is trying to make friends and this is an issue so people may have.

  2. Some of the techniques used is the sound as the sound emphasised an action which is displayed in the video

  3. The film doesn’t have a particular audience but the main one is teenagers even though it is cartoon it is a little advanced as some could say that it is a bit scary for people who are young.

  4. The film is around 5 minutes long but I might only do the sound track about 1 minute so that I make it really good.

  5. To make sure that it isn’t copyright you should source it

  6. I could mind map it and create a proposal

  7. I will look into primary research and secondary research like about the way sound is created films and stuff

  8. Researching gives extra knowledge

  9. Audio equipment

  10. Might not record like I want it to and other sounds might effect what I want to record.

plannning

. i am going to start with

when the sand in pouring to have a slushy sound like something crusty

when the page is changing i would have paper scruching

my propsal/ plan

want to create a sound piece to go with the film maker. I am going to do only 30-45 seconds of the video and I want it to do really well. I am going to start with the sand section as it is near the beginning and I want to do in chronological order. For the sand section I am going to use sugar and paper and chuck the sugar on to the paper to make the shhh sound as it goes with the sound effect I think that it is very close to the sound and it will go will the movie.

For the second section I am going to do the book dropping to mimic this sound I am going to use a a heavy object falling to signify that the book is heavy and also to show it has the same impact ( in terms of sound ) and with the sound being similar i.t will match the scene from the movie.

Book page turning is another section and it will done by me scrunching up pages as the sound is very similar. It sounds like moving.

The next section is going to be the glass jar being dropped and the same objects inside it falling to demonstrate this I am going to use keys falling on to a table as it has the same pitch and it has the same impact.

The last section I am going to do is when the character is ripping material for that I am going to just use a zip going up and down.

i am going to make as realistic as possible so it fits with the video and looks as good as some of the videos that i saw. \

I looked at the Alice in Wonderland and decided that i could pick some information and ideas from this video.

Alice in Wonderland

Alice in Wonderland is an imaginative piece that involves an unrealistic video it shows a young girl go into a magically world she meets different characters and explores different environment. she falls down a hole takes her from a good realistic world to a big adventure she meets the white rabbit and has other encounters with the the good side like the mad hatters and that but she comes in contact with some bad characters like the queen of hearts and the chessir cat and experiences two types of people and learns good vs evil she helps a baby/ pig and saves it from a bad family who treats the baby badly. she escapes with  the baby but it later turns into a pig.

Alice hads more intractions like with the queen of hearts and playing a game.

the sounds used in the film have a big range it has the sound effects. When she opens the use a magical sound which emphasis that it is magically and surreal. They use dramatic music when she is walking toward the house with a pig. The director also uses crashing and banging sound for when they are in that house.  Then they use the typical disney sound when something magically is going to happen. There is

what did we did prior to this

we learnt about sound effects and how they worked in films. we looked at how they were created like with different equipment and object so for like the effect crunching  in the leaves can be done with like paper. we watched a video about creating sound effects and learnt that it is edited into a film professional and it is all filmed separately from the video content. It takes a while to edit out as you have to make it in sync with the video otherwise the films rating automatically goes down.

the maker video just starts with the creature staring at the wall the music is slowly creeping up. The creature ears go up and he is still staring in that particular place. Then we get some sound effects when the time shaker moves it creates a creaking sound and then the sand is pouring from one in to the other and you hear the sand effect.  It is kind off of a ssh sound. the classic music is getting louder showing an effect. then he brings a book and and it drops on the table he uses a loud bang sound effect for the book dropping. then the next effect is page turning over and this effect is a quieter sound  he moved the book across the page snd you can hear the friction of the book moving. Then the dough is added and then the dough sound is created which is a squishing sound. The rubbing of the forehead and the stamping sound is the next big effect. He uses a squeaky sound for the forehead and a plock sound for the stamping of the forehead.

Evaluation

Overall learning about sound  was very different we started off learning about how things threw folio and what it meant c and what the significant and also how they are used in the films. We started creating our own like sound and then after that we looked at a film called the maker and watched it firstly with sound and then without sound and how we could recreate the sound. I basically did a small bit of the sound effect which was about 45 second and recreated it I did this by crushing things and using a recording device one of the sound was dropping beads which was to represent the sound of when the maker drops the jar.

Overall I found this unit the hardest due to the fact  I am more into filming I did enjoy looking at a different aspect of the media production and it did broaden my knowledge.

In the maker video I thought it was ok but I could have done with some improving for example the sound effects couldn’t really be heard that well but I think that it is manageable I did try to make the timing right so it all fits together but there may be some mistakes with timing in some of it.

Some of the problems I encountered was that I couldn’t upload it to YouTube due to the copyright claim and that stopped me for producing it also when I was creating the quality of the sound wasn’t that good so I had to improve it the sound.

The also sound effect I did I believe was the best one but the others were just okay. I also added a sound at the stat which was stormzy  blinded by your grace

i then changed the song to some where only we know cause the song is more relevant and i could get it a un copyrighted version

Working on this project did teach me quite a few things overall.

looking at Alice in Wonderland taught me few thing about sound effects.

Analyse Project Constraints

•What techniques have been used in making the film?

Stop motion animation, characters made from fabric with wire framework inside to support them. The sounds used were:

Natural sounds ie pages turning, salt falling, classical music, no dialogue. The music and sound effects made a sad and emotional atmosphere.

•

•Who do you think the film is aimed at? Give reasons:

I think it’s aimed at older teenagers and adults: this is because it’s too serious for kids, the music is really slow and sad and not upbeat; if the soundtrack was more comic it would have been aimed more at children.

•

•How long does the film last? How long will the soundtrack need to last?

It last 5+ minutes. We have been tasked with re-scoring a 30 second section of the film, adding new sound effects and changing the atmosphere.

•

•If you wish to add music, how can you approach this in terms of copyright?

WE can use cover tracks rather than the original music, and list all music clearly so we are not breaking copyright.

•

•How will you plan the project? (consider mindmaps, storyboards, etc)

We will use a storyboard and mindmap; the storyboard will use screenshots to plan sounds for key moments, and we will write a small proposal.

•

•What research will you complete to support the project? (consider, primary audience research using questionnaires etc, secondary research into use of foley, watching Audition tutorials etc).

We needed to research how to make foley sound effects, and also find out about Audition sound editing software. We also need to research audience preferences for our soundtrack.

•

•What are the pros and cons of each type of research?

Internet research into foley is useful because we found out how to make the techniques; the con is that it’s not always reliable and you can’t ask the person questions.

By finding out audience preferences, we can adapt our project to suit their preferences, so it will be more popular.

•

•What equipment will you use in recording and editing audio?

Sound recorder, mic, Premiere Pro.

•

•What problems might you have in recording and editing the sounds for the video?

The Problems might be other noise in background, wind, rain, making specific sounds that are suitable like salt pouring through timer, problems in not operating the recorder properly and getting the sounds off the SD card.
