explain the role of the ASA
The advert life is short is a advert which is advertising the brand x box the video however was banned for various reasons. The advert was banned because the start if the video starts off with inappropriate content like it has a woman giving birth the reason for this is the birth is fake and the baby just shoots out the video this might be offence to mid wives as it is disrespecting their job role as it might be taking the mic to them. Secondly some people might see the fact a kid is flying through the air as child cruelty and also the person (boy) in the video is more or less naked and this can be seen as very inappropriate to viewers. Thirdly the irrelevance of the advert as it doesn’t make any sense as it isn’t really advertising the product properly. The horrible message it sends as well as it is saying that you should just spend your life playing x box hence the title ‘Life is short’. It also encourages excessive playing and addiction due to its message. The way at the end the boy who is now a old man enters the grave is also offence as people just crash into the grave they are lay to rest properly also it might upset viewers who have recently lost someone themselves and its is very inconsiderate.
x box is a source of entertainment and the advert doesn't show this it makes it look bad.

banned adverts
Jaguar advert ,
This advert is adverising
doritos
The advert was banned as it promotes sexual behaviour as when he doesn't have any Doritos she licks him on the face in a sexual way and her body language is very suggestive. The next section when she running again the man has Doritos and he puts the Doritos in a very inappropriate place the video shows that woman would do anything just for some Doritos this video could be seen as offensive and that it has aspects of sexism as women is seen as a sexual object
other reason complained as it had nothing t do with actual item.
Also at the end it also shows violence as the man pushes the women just to get the Doritos and this indicates that violence towards women is acceptable.
Durlex advert
The video was banned as it shows a man painting as he is painting and changing the colour he is also changing woman and this displays that men can change women just they change paint and this is very sexist as it demonstrate that all women are cheap and they are not worth anything many women complained as it brainwashing girls and men and boys and women into thinking that woman are not worth anything an also that they shouldn't be respected and show the man is dominant. Also the clothing again is very suggestive as it is highlighting in sexual areas where males would look. At the end of the video the are seen on the bed which is another reason that is banned. It also shows that he can pick and choose they like have to obey him in a way.
ASA
their role is to authorise adverts and to take any complaints and look in to the advert they ban some adverts if they analyse it and it is classified as inappropriate due to many things for example if offense or it is sending out a bad message like the jaguar advertising or it is biased in terms that it lies to you like it doesn't give information or you are unable to see the writing. In a nutshell they see whether it complies with advertising standard codes. it cannot interpret or enforce legislation. They try to take into consideration other peoples thoughts and beliefs so that they are keeping a least the majority of people happy.
The organisation was founded in 1962 and its chair man is David Currie and Baron Currie. It's head quarters is in the United Kingdom. The type of business is NGO.
ASA complaint if its about a complaint outside the UK then its known as a cross border complaint.
This printed advert is banned because it demonstrates that woman are beautiful if they have the 'look'that look being skinny and if i they don't then they are not perfect and that it shouldn't be accepted.
it send out the wrong message to women and to girls and all sizes should be accepted which is why there is plus size models so this advert goes against all of that
This advert was banned because of religious reasons
It was seen as bad as a woman was dressed up in a nuns uniform and that is disrespectful e as Catholics believes that nuns are scared and that it’s a very important role that shouldn't be taken advantage of and the fact a random is wearing it is hurtful and also seen as an offensive that was the main reason for it being banned as well as the choice of word using it was also a be question raised as what is it trying to say so it was eventually banned for this reasonsIt was seen as bad as a woman was dressed up in a nuns uniform and that is disrespectful as Catholics believes that nuns are scared and that it’s a very important role that shouldn't be taken advantage of and the fact a random is wearing it is hurtful and also seen as an offence that was the main reason for it being banned as well as the choice of word using it was also a be question raised as what is it trying to say so it was eventually banned for this reasons

This is a video ad which is from the 80s which is advertising Weetabix. It is a animation type video with cartoons that look like mini Weetabix
This advert is a printed advert which purpose is to advertise Kellogg’s Cornflakes. It is was printed and advertised in the 90s. The advert is simply a cartoon girl eating a bowl of cornflakes with a small amount of writing around the image.
The first words are ‘Fat Free’ these two words are emphasised in the poster. The way they are emphasised is because they are in a large font and also they are a different style of writing compared to the other writing on the poster. The punctuation also is used for effect as they use an exclamation mark this makes the writing more noticed and when you say something that has an exclamation mark next to it you tend to shout it. The other writing that is displayed is ‘lard heyday’ this particular language was commonly used back then however isn’t really used in todays times.
The word ‘Lard is a word which was used to describe a person who was ‘fat’ but didn’t believe that they were fat and the word heyday means when you have high spirts. So those two word are very simply to each other as some would say that sometimes that high spirits can mean you being in denial and in those days the word lard also would describe people who lived in denial. The word lard today still means fat but only really mentioned when you are cooking.
The meaning behind the poster is that that when they are talking about it being fat free its is trying to emphasis that its good for you are the extended sentence which is about ‘fat people’ shows that they should definitely buy this cereal as it is especially good for you.
The semiotics of this poster is that fact that it is a woman who is used and they are talking about it being fat free might indicate that women shouldn’t be what they classify as ‘fat’. And in the 90s compared to now different body types on women were not really looked upon like in todays world. A woman who was average was the only ideal woman and this advert reflects this point.
There are many purposes to this particular advert first one being that they want toby Kellogg’s corn flakes but like mentioned before it is also a dig at women.
The advert target audience is women but also younger children as well as the drawing is a girl and not full grown woman. It is also targeted at bigger people but mainly bigger woman.
they people who created this advert wanted the meaning to be hidden and they didn't want it to be a forward dig and it wasn't to focused on the actual product.
The printed advert demonstrates a man who is a alpha male carrying a glass of milk in one hand and a wooden base ball bat.
The writing that is visible is very small amount it uses of the power of three with the words being going going gone. This quote can be used for sales when things are cheaper. in this case its for simply just milk. The other physical writing is ‘got milk?’ which is rhetorical questions and also a bold statement. The word altogether going going gone got milk shows contrast, the first group going going gone is showing that everything is gone and then it goes on to say got milk this is asking you but surely if its gone you cant get it. The person advertising this might being saying that milk is going so quickly you might want to go and get your own.
The actual image is some way confusing to some people as why is the man holding things which are for to different purposes. Like a baseball bat is for sport and milk is for drinking. There is a small link like milk is got a lot calcium and calcium is for strong bones and also a baseball bat is a hard object so which is what milk makes you meaning ‘strong’. The way the man is standing is also significant as he is standing like he is in power and strong as he is flexing a lot with his arms (muscles). The reason this is significant is because he is a man and men in those days were seen as very strong and alpha males and women were seen as the weaker characters which isn’t technique true but it simply was their beliefs back in those days. In today’s world those views are not looked upon as with the introduction of feminism things have seen women have more of rights and men don’t have to always be alpha male like the man In the poster.
Most likely the person who created this was a man as some women did want more rights and as well as advertising milk the person advertising is making a dig at the lack of a woman’s’ strength.

This is e cigarette advert and it puts down a normal
cigarette and shows the contrast between the advert.
It starts off with a man who is smoking a normal cigarette he looks like he is pretty high up wearing a smart suit. The woman didn’t seem as high class as the woman isn’t dressed as smartly as the man. And she is smoking a completely different types of status in a way. This may have been on purpose because of the way some people see men and women at different levels. The woman kind off sexualised in this video like the way she licks the cigarette. The woman then puts the e cigarette in the mans mouth showing a bit of a connection. When the man looks when he smoking the e cigarette shows that it is more beneficial than the normal cigarette. The video has no actual dialogue this video it just has acting inside like a silent movie.
This 2013 blu advert explains the advantages of the blu e cigarette advert it explains that you can smoke it in a lot more places the man mentioned you could smoke at a basketball place this was what happened before that you could smoke the e cigarette advert better. The man is smoking the e cigarette and like in the advert he looks comfortable and happy. The advert is pretty simple doesn’t have too many full gimmicks it just has one actor talking and promoting the product. He start of the advert with the negatives of smoking normal cigarette ( fags) he mentions he doesn't want to feel guilty when smoking and then he mentions there is an alternative hence the e cigarette. The man also explains that he is been a smoker from 20 years and this may be the reason they chose him because of the experience he has had with smoking normal fags and he knows the contrast more than anyone. It mentions that people wont be affected around so it isn’t just about the smoker it is about the people who surround it.

Proposal
I want to do a advert which promotes using e cigarette over fags. It is not going to encourage non smokers to start smoking e cigarette because that isn’t the idea
It isn’t going to be encouraging kids to start smoking.
The advert will show the difference between the emotions people feel for example I will show people who are smoking looking really sad and depressed and then I will show people with e cigarette looking happy. It will show the someone who is smoking the e cigarette giving the person who is smoking fags the e cigarette like encouraging them to use it and showing the person become happier almost automatically. The video will have to contain young teens because I have to but tat isn’t the message I want.
The video will have a slogan at the end which will be catchy.
I want it mak itn look lik iga
Swot analysis s
Strengths – the video will show awareness about how e cigarette are promoted to be better and the video will not promote people to start smoking. We have can show different emotions. I have done some research into it and also I have looked at different previous adverts that are related to this theme.
Weakness – there isn’t really much scientific information and also we have to use young teens for the adverts and that kind off goes away from the ASA guidelines and that isn’t good and also the advert might be hard to film as there will be smokers of set and your not meant to
Opportunities – it will help promote e cigarette there are videos which are available to watch so I can compare my one to the others I have seen and also I can get ideas
Threats – like I previously mentioned there will be smokers on set and that is dangerous and also the thing I mentioned about the underage people acting in the video
The are many different ASA guideline and the main one being about the age of the people in the video it describes that there shouldn’t be anyone under the age of 18 and it mentions 25 and it says that you shouldn’t encourage youth culture.
